Railroad Safety

Safety is Metra's number one priority. That's why we proactively reinforce the importance of railroad safety externally and internally across a broad spectrum of activities, including our Operation Lifesaver Train Safety Awareness Program and our annual Safety Competition. Through Operation Lifesaver, Metra employees give presentations to community and school groups about safe behaviors around trains. They also visit stations across our rail system to talk to our riders and distribute safety materials. The Metra Safety Competition helps to reinforce our rail safety messages by encouraging children to create artwork or an essay illustrating the importance of a specific safety theme. Both programs help keep safety at the forefront of our children's and customers' minds as they interact with the region’s rail system.
