Metra is proud to be one of the sponsors of the 2014 Global Level Crossing Safety & Trespass Prevention Symposium, a major conference that will bring experts from around the world together to exchange information, discuss the latest research and share best practices to improve the safety of at-grade rail crossings and prevent railway trespassing.
The conference, being held August 3-8 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will include presentations from the global highway, rail, law enforcement, research and regulatory communities. The symposium’s title summarizes the numerous topics to be covered: “Achieving the Three ‘E’s’ of Engineering, Education and Enforcement, then Moving Beyond to Evaluation, Encouragement and Emergency Response.”
Among the presenters will be Metra Safety Director Hilary Konczal, who will discuss “The Economic and Social Impact of Railroad Incidents.”
“Safety is Metra’s top priority, and we strive in everything we do to be the safest railroad in the country,” Konczal said. “We are not only proud to be participating in this important global conference but excited to be sharing with and learning from some of the world’s top experts in railroad safety.”
The symposium will also include two excursions to Chicago, which will include a look at work done by the CREATE (Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficiency) Program, an effort to improve the railroad infrastructure in the Chicago area, and a Crossing Collision Investigation Class by the Elmhurst Police Department.
